RoofMatch is not an emergency service and cannot arrange emergency attendance.
Do not climb the roof
Do not climb onto a roof, put up a ladder, enter a damaged roof space or attempt to tarp a roof yourself. Keep clear of damaged structures and electrical hazards. Follow emergency services’ directions before thinking about quotes.
Before severe weather: prepare, do not panic
The Bureau of Meteorology identifies October to April as Queensland’s severe weather season. This is general seasonal context, not a warning that a storm will hit your suburb today. Check current BOM warnings and your council disaster dashboard for your actual location.
Keep your emergency plan, insurer’s contact details, existing property-condition records and essential documents available. Arrange professional maintenance in safe conditions well before bad weather, not during a warning. No checklist can guarantee that a roof will avoid storm damage. Sunshine Coast location notes are not a weather warning.
During the storm
- Follow official shelter and evacuation advice. Do not go outside to get roof photos.
- Keep clear of water near wiring, electrical equipment and damaged ceilings. A sagging ceiling can be dangerous. If an area is unsafe, leave it; do not approach a switchboard through water or try electrical work.
- Call emergency services when needed. Do not rely on a quote form, social-media reply or a business promising to be first on scene.
What to ask a contractor
- What defects were actually observed, and which could not be assessed?
- Is the recommendation repair, restoration or replacement, and why?
- Which temporary measures, materials, access costs, disposal and permanent works are included?
- Who is the legal contractor, and do relevant licence classes and insurance match the work?
- How will variations, weather delays and warranties be handled?
Use QBCC’s licence register to check the contracting entity. A website badge or an urgent advertisement is not a verification result. The quote checklist repeats the licence and scope questions for later, non-emergency quotes.
Avoid pressure after a storm
Do not assume “storm damage” automatically means a free roof or an insurance-funded restoration. Ask for written information before agreeing to non-emergency work and check offers that promise claim approval or large guaranteed savings. A referral service cannot decide an insurance claim.
When routine quote matching eventually opens, RoofMatch may help introduce participating contractors for supported work. It will still not replace emergency assistance, insurer directions or professional assessment. For now, collection remains off.

About RoofMatch
RoofMatch is a roof-quote referral service, not the contractor carrying out roofing work. Quote matching is not open yet; no quote request is collected or sent to a roofer. Use this guide to prepare questions for a suitably licensed contractor. Once matching opens, participating businesses may pay RoofMatch for accepted introductions; RoofMatch will not represent the whole market. Do not treat this article as an inspection, a binding quote or emergency assistance.
